Did you know that 16 Temple Shir-Tikvah members team up to mentor college students earning college degrees from Tufts University while incarcerated? Education is the single strongest factor in reducing recidivism, the rate at which people return to prison. Nationally, 75% of people return to prison within five years, but for those who earn a college degree, it drops to 5%. Mentoring is a flexible time commitment and a rewarding, eye opening way to learn more about the carceral system and the impact of education.
