Reverse Tashlich 2024

Wednesday, October 2, 2024 29 Elul 5784

All Day for 10 Days

Since Rosh Hashanah 2020, temple members and others in the Jewish community have volunteered to clean up the Mystic River. This year we’ll again join with people from within the Mystic River Watershed and around the world to cleanse our souls by removing trash down by the river (and lake) side. Throw your sins in the water, and also come join us at a time and location of your choosing, as individuals, with friends, or family members! Karen Grossman (karengrossman@shir-tikvah.org), Temple Shir Tikvah, Winchester is coordinating this tikkun olam effort with many temples in the area.

We welcome temple members and other interested individuals to participate. Please report your results (# of participants, type of trash and # of bagfuls) and send photos afterwards to karengrossman@shir-tikvah.org so we can tabulate the total numbers and submit them for the national Tikkun HaYam (“repairing the sea”) initiative. They will posted our results with others - https://www.repairthesea.org/mission-and-vision, promoting interfaith harmony and cooperation, and raising awareness and encouraging action to address the many threats facing the aquatic environment. Eagles, alewives, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs ... and some sins...all in our backyard that can be carried to the ocean.

Let’s start 5785 off right with this fun, outdoors, Tikkun Olam project! Feel free to contact me with questions, if necessary to put out this notice to those who may be interested.
